X Update Sun, 14 Mar 2021, 12:51 Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.9 just reported 49 km east of Akureyri, Iceland 4.9 quake 14 Mar 12:35 pm (GMT +0) The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in Iceland near Akureyri, Akureyrarkaupstaður, Northeast, only 16 minutes ago. The earthquake hit around noon on Sunday 14 March 2021 at 12:35 pm local time at a shallow depth of 17.9 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
