Construction on new Midge Point boat ramp just weeks away

Premium Content Subscriber only Construction on a long-awaited new boat ramp at Midge Point will begin in June and be complete in October, weather permitting. Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert said Queensland company Australian Marine and Civil was awarded the $1.55m contract to complete the works for the new boat ramp at Jimmy’s Rocks Road. “The contract includes construction of a new two-lane boat ramp and 120-metre-long access causeway at Jimmy’s Rocks Road,” Mrs Gilbert said. “The design of the new facility accounts for the local marine habitat, large tidal range and wave conditions of the Midge Point area.”

Man charged after alleged 20 person Anzac Day brawl

Premium Content Subscriber only UPDATE 11.15AM: A man has been charged over an alleged 20-person brawl at a Slade Point pub on Anzac Day that resulted in a man being taken to hospital. Several police crews were called to the Seabreeze Hotel following reports of a brawl involving 15 to 20 people. A police spokeswoman said a 27-year-old man had been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm in a public place. The spokeswoman said no one else had been charged but the investigation was still ongoing. Paramedics were called to the scene assessing three people. A 36-year-old man was admitted to Mackay Base Hospital overnight in a stable condition with a head injury.

Man in hospital after brawl breaks out at hotel

Premium Content Subscriber only 7.15AM: A man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a brawl broke out at a Slade Point pub on Anzac Day. Several police units were called to the Seabreeze Hotel about 9.20pm with reports 15 to 20 people were involved in a brawl. Paramedics assessed three people at the scene and one was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition with a head injury. Critical care and the high acuity response unit were on board. The other two people declined transport to hospital. 10.15PM: A man is being taken to hospital after a brawl at a pub in Slade Point on Anzac Day.
