Even after being flagged on ticketing platform Eventbrite for encouraging passengers to bring concealed weapons to Washington D.C., a Pennsylvania man who organized a caravan to the Jan. 6 rally and died during the riot on Capitol Hill was allowed to continue selling tickets through the service, new reporting finds.

Eventbrite’s attempt to stop the spread of harmful misinformation” missed extremists openly operating on the platform, one of whom died at the Jan. 6 rally-turned-riot in Washington, D.C.
Concerned about the spread of false allegations of election fraud in the days following the 2020 presidential election, Eventbrite officials went on the offense. When its users began organizing a Nov. 13 March for Trump event in Washington D.C., Eventbrite shut it down, stating that events spreading “harmful misinformation” about the election were now banned from the platform.
