A chase that started just outside Escondido was called off after it reached freeways speeds of 95 mph, but the fleeing car was soon located after it crashed into a parked vehicle Thursday night, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.
A deputy tried to pull over the car, which was missing a front license plate, at Skyridge Lane and Viewridge Place just before 8:25 p.m., Lt. Jim Emig said. The car instead sped off, and the deputy gave chase.
The chase ended up on Interstate 15, and reached speeds high enough that it was called off for safety reasons, Emig said. About 10 minutes after the chase started, deputies found the car, which had crashed near the terminus of Valley View Place at Jack Rabbit Acres which is just blocks from where the chase began.
