Message in a bottle from Kentucky found in Tennessee 30 years later

It was December of 1990 when Trina and John Hollander wrote a note and put it in a bottle before throwing that bottle into the Green River from the home John had just bought in Calhoun, Kentucky. It took 30 years and four months for that bottle to make its way through the Green River, into the Ohio River and down the Mississippi, where it settled and was found last weekend at Open Lake in Lauderdale County near Ripley. The trip is an estimated 250 miles. “My grandparents had a house on the lake that our family still uses,” said Pam Stanfield. “My daughter, Skylar Mae, and I went what we call ‘treasure hunting’ to see what washed up on the shore during the recent flooding.

Curious, they opened and read the note inside. As it turns out, the message, signed by John and Trina, was sent into the Green River in Kentucky on December 21,1990, traveling 250 miles before ending up in the Tennessee lake.
