It was a special weekend of motocross that had
everything – high intensity dirt bike action, a slew of
different race winners, weather that remarkably switched
from chilly to baking hot and, of course, a significant
birthday party.
The 60th annual Honda-sponsored New
Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at Woodville on Saturday and
Sunday was a celebration of the sport, the popular event at
the eastern end of the Manawatu Gorge achieving a landmark
in more ways than one.
It was not only marking six
decades since the sport was properly introduced to New
Zealand in 1961 by now-87-year-old Palmerston North man Tim

The heat goes on in more ways than one this weekend as Woodville hosts the first major event of the 2021 motocross season.
With the weather tipped to break thermometers and entries in excess of 600 riders, the obvious popularity and continued growth of the annual New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at Woodville should ensure another bumper weekend of race action.

It s already the premier motocross event on the Kiwi calendar, but now the famous New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at Woodville will have even more significance.
The 60th anniversary of this iconic event is set for just under a week s time, on the weekend of January 30-31, and room for the big teams to find parking space on pit lane is about to run out, while the organisers are working at pace to get all the rider entries packed into the event programme.

The tranquillity of Nikau Road Pahiatua was shattered on Sunday, January 17 when 110 motocross riders with their entourage of vehicles, support crew and friends took over the Bush Riders circuit for five active hours until the forecasted storm arrived.
Sunday s Woodville Motocross Blowout was the ideal way to get riders into racing after a long layoff due to Covid and Christmas. It was hosted by the Bush Riders Club on their Pahiatua circuit as the Woodville Circuit which is the setting for the NZ Motocross Grand Prix is out of bounds until the event on January 30-31.
