neutrality. rules that were designed to ensure equal access to the internet. the move will allow internet providers like verizon and comcast to block or slow down what websites customers see or favor the websites of companies that pay them. net neutrality treats the internet more like a utility and guarantees equal access, but opponents say those rules stifle competition and innovation. the five fcc commissioners split 3-2 to repeal those rules. it s painful for me to say this, that this is the new norm at the fcc. a norm where the majority ignores the will of the people. the sky isn t falling. consumers will remain protected. and the internet will continue to thrive. the repeal won t take place for several months. several states and major tech companies tonight say they will sue to try to stop it. next tonight here, the latest white house staffer to depart, omarosa, a former contestant on the apprentice, fired on that show three times. this time, she says she wasn t fired, b
campaign promise. one of the lines that supposedly sophisticated people use during the campaign is you should take donald trump seriously but not literally. it s apparent that we should take donald trump literally. he wanted said he wanted more people deported. he s going to have more people deported. and i think allen is right that legally he is on solid ground here. because, you know, the whole idea behind immigration law has been that we can t deport all 11 million people at once. so you have to have priorities. and you have to decide whom you re going to deport. but if you put more resources and fewer restrictions on i.c.e., you re going to deport more people. and trump is going to deport more people. you say those worried about mass deportation that the sky isn t falling. explain that. i think there is reason to be concerned as everyone s been saying in terms of enforcement, the floor has lowered.
with medicaid expansion, nearly half the adults that remain uninsured would be eligible, but until then, republicans should come back to planet reality where obamacare isn t failing. the sky isn t falling and the talking points from 2010 are not working. nice try. but we got you.
why? because the health care law is working. 8 million signed up, more insurers want to join the exchanges, and guess what, the sky isn t falling. this is what success looks like. this is what progress looks like. joining me now is m.i.t. economist jonathan gruber, who helped design the affordable care act, and former pennsylvania governor ed rendell. thank you both for being here. good to be here, al. our pleasure. governor, senator mcconnell really twisting himself into a pretzel on health care. what does that say to you? well, it says to me that this is going to be more interesting election and less predictable a election than anybody forecast. the affordable health care act is not necessarily going to be a downside, and, in fact trks going to cause tremendous problems for republicans. republicans who were calling for
thank you both for coming on the show tonight. thanks for having us. governor, the sky isn t falling and the rate of uninsured americans is going down. how can anyone be against this? well, it s hard to figure except it s associated with president obama. look, there is a little false debate going on, and i would like to straighten it out. republicans say a rand corporation study says only 800,000 of the 7 million didn t have health insurance before. that s probably not correct, but that remanes to be seen. so they say only 800,000en insured people have been covered. but they re feorgetting about te 4 million people covered by the medicaid expansion. they didn t have health insurance and today they do. so even if you took their extreme figure of 800,000, extremely low, if you add the $4.2 million covered by medication expansion, that s 5 million right there. that s 5 million right there.
