yonkers dealing with this, dr. quezada? this is what my brother s keeper is all about. you know, during the demonstration, many of my students led demonstration in the city of yonkers. and every elected official and the superintendent were part of those demonstrations, because we wanted to show our young people that we were in this together. i think is what the president tries to do with his book, actually what he does with his book, which is telling us all that my brother s keeper is an opportunity to ensure that our young people realize that they do have a place in our society, whether to demonstration or getting an education. you know, president obama, the other thing about the skip gates incident is that it highlighted what black people, especially black professionals, have to go through in terms of navigating their way through the
country 2020 and talking to white voters particularly in places like iowa, even they were uncomfortable getting really down and dirty talking about race because all of it has to be self ref ren shall. and human beings don t want to confront their own biases. i understand. we all get that way. especially hearing from a black man, people get voters get defensive and republicans know that and they can run off of that. that s why you go into the suburbs and fear monger about blm having guns and coming into your house and making you feel uncomfortable because fear is a really powerful motivator. you can empathize why obama might have been gun shy talking about race after what looks like an innocuous comment, now, how many innocuous comments biden give everyday. the skip gates incident proves that barack obama couldn t win on race. if he can t get upset about skip gates and mow is he supposed to talk about anything else? he was the embodiment and he
about it. if his presidency is a success, i think his tweets will be seen as a success. this is just a union leader of a local union. it s not somebody who is really famous or anything like that. now he is. now he is. trump does not discriminate when it comes to stature. everyone from little old me to alicia machado. anyone can be a target. i am reminded of a couple months after obama was inaugurated, we had the skip gates incident. he came out, had a press conference, called the cambridge police and said they act stupidly. there was a big back lash that the president would, a, address in a press conference and, b, so casually. i think then he immediately realized what you say when you are president is different. i don t know if trump will have that same kind of lesson early on. what he tweets as president or from an official potus account
garner] chanting] what do would want? dead cops. when do we want it? now. former congressman allen west joins us. good evening, sir. i know that nobody wants to, quote, blame anybody but you have got to look at what the root cause of this is to try to figure out how to stop it and to prevent it from happening again. where did this antipolice sentiment? i mean, what s behind all of this? the most important thing to understand leaders establish climate on atmosphere across the nation. and when you have people such as the president such as the attorney general eric holder and mayor bill de blasio and look at. so things is that have been said and go back to the skip gates incident which the police in cambridge acted stupidly, those are the words of the president why do we believe police need
why did they jump on this particular thing so quickly? i think there was a level of sensitivity, particularly, look, this had started. a couple things had been brewing for quite some time. back and forth between fox news and the department of justice about the black panther s case and then we had, you know, we had the naacp comments about the tea partiers. so, there have been some things swirling around and this just seemed to hit right in the middle of all of that and, so, i think there was, obviously, a sense of overreaction. the irony, frankly, talking about how it was a year since the skip gates incident. i think president obama is the one person in this country who is the most eloquent on these issues, frankly, and clearly, we haven t dealt with some of these race issues and i think, chris, your original point, this raises some real questions about the media in this country and how organizations like the white house actually deal with it. i think a lot of frustration
