new hampshire. on what could only be described as a wild day for the 2024 presidential campaign. what once was a pretty clap only a couple of months ago, is now down to a two-person race, as of today. after florida governor ron desantis dropped out and endorsed donald trump, immediately basically, just hours ago. now this was a rocky road for desantis from the very beginning, i think it is fair to say. because remember back in the spring, when he kicked off his campaign with a glitchy quid twitter live screen. we all remember that. it turns out things never really went up from there. i know it may be hard to picture, especially tonight, before he entered the race, desantis was thought of as the next great hope of the republican party. he was the biggest story of the 2022 election on the republican side, and he was thought of as donald trump s biggest threat. but for messaging, for messaging mistakes to money issues, his campaign quickly, and i mean quite quickly, fell apart
state, and gave us the first tangible look at where republican voters stand right now. and tonight, iowa republicans delivered a resounding victory to donald trump, nothing hugely surprising there. but we re gonna still talk about what that means. with me here at the table, all-star panel, former obama campaign manager, msnbc political analyst, and as i always like to say, my old boss, david plouffe. and the host of the weekend on msnbc, michael steele, simone sanders townsend, and alicia menendez. everybody is working very hard over the last couple of days. nbc news can project that donald trump will exceed 50% tonight. we can also project that florida governor desantis will finish second, which is a bit surprising coming into tonight. we will bring you any updated numbers as soon as we get them, and we will stay closer to the decision desk, and of course, the one and only, steve kornacki. the field has also one candidate smaller tonight, vivek ramaswamy announced he was dro
it is the eve of the iowa caucus, the start of the presidential primaries, you may have heard. and i m ari melber, with you right now for an msnbc special, a candidate slash defendant trump, reporting on his own clash of american politics, law, and how voters may assess the candidate, whose ear could end in the exalted oval office, or a small prison cell. that will depend on the outcome of several criminal trials, plus other cases. and the next person to track, and break it all down for you tonight on caucus eve, as the primaries begin tomorrow, some of trump s rivals are now invoking trump s legal problems as a general election problem for the ex president. obviously, the distractions of everything that s going on with all of these legal issues has been a huge thing for him. you re going to have criminal trials, you re going to have a lot of focus on things like january 6th by the media. and i think that ends up focusing the election on things that are going to be adva
