who would ever believe that in 2017, a president of the united states would be pursuing an argument where there s a false equivalency narrative about whether or not you should clearly and categorically condemn the kkk and the white nationalist groups or whoever else is creating division and hate in the country. condemn them and work against them. try to put them out of business and not do this bizarre and insulting and really damaging false equivalency. so he has to, at some point, tell the american people where we re headed. he needs to work on an infrastructure bill. he needs to lead the country in the right direction. so we pay our bills, so that we move the economy forward and raise wages instead of condemning people and creating all kinds of chaos and division. so, you don t need to be an expert to assess that he s leading the country in the wrong direction, and i heard a good bit of that when i went across pennsylvania this august.

president obama across the country. my understanding is that he s worked as an attorney on the management side of labor relation issues. what happens though these movements across the country, people that have seen success like los angeles and seattle? do these movements go any further under an alexseattle, d go under the acosta reign at the department of labor? what s terrific about those movements is they are not depending upon government. they are bringing pressure on government and employers to do the right thing. in this case i think they can expect that the labor department is going to sit on the sidelines. it s not going to help for example, raise the minimum wage, to improve overtime standards, improve worker safety and health. but as long as the worker based movements are driving the agenda and pushing for better live force working people, particularly those who are stuck in low wage, low skill jobs that make it very, very difficult for them to support their families, i thin
but the state s republican governor paul lepage says he won t go after companies that fail to comply. and of course people disagree. good to see you both. john, i ll start with you. they decided that they would have a minimum wage in maine and whether you agree or not, they decided that they would do it and now the governor says we don t need to enforce it, businesses do what you want. how is that right in your view? well, i think it is a slight nuance. the governor didn t say he wouldn t enforce it, he would he would give businesses a 30 day window to get their act together before they crack down on it. eventually the governor has to let it stand, but i think this is just an example that the governor understands that the minimum wage does nothing but kill jobs. i live in los angeles and when they jacked up the minimum wage to $15, all parking lot
reporter: and while he does have experience oning a company like trump he has no prior experience in government. i think it would be the most fun you could have with your clothes on to be in this cabinet and get things going. only views conflicting with the commission. on minimum wage. i ve been opposed to wage increases that kill jobs. and a lot of these state increases are to that level where they would kill jobs. i think that s bad for american workers. reporter: cut labor costs saying machines are always polite and never take a vacation. trump allies are praising the pick today. nobody can deny this man is in touch with how to create jobs. the importance of labor management roles and responsibilities. i he s a great choice. reporter: but the labor community is voicing concerns. he s filled his administration with nominees who are millionaire, multi millionaires and billionaires
