The Brevard County Sheriff s Office is investigating a reported dead body discovered in Merritt Island Tuesday evening.
The remains were initially reported to the Coast Guard at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, but they handed the case off to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators.
By 6:30 p.m., two Sheriff s Office vehicles had arrived at Surf and Ski Watersports boat rental near the West Cocoa Beach Causeway.
Florida Fish and Wildlife confirmed the Sheriff s Office was handling the case with their assistance.
