tonight president trump is taking flack over his attacks on the ninth circuit court. george conway, the husband of president trump s top aide, kellyanne conway, sent a series of tweets accusing the president of citing misleading numbers and i a tacking the court, but it is mild compared to his most recent assessment of the entire trump administration. cnn s brian todd has more on conway s escalating war of words on trump. brian, conway was harsh with trump during his first sitdown interview, isn t that right? reporter: it is not a surprise that george conway, husband of kellyanne conway, is critical of the president. he has been skewering him for months. it is jarring that george conway is so brutal in his latest broadside against mr. trump. the contrarian husband of one of the president s top aides, kellyanne conway, isn t just raising eyebrows. he is dropping jaws, speaking
george conway, the husband of kellyanne conway, is critical of the president. he s been skewering him for months, but it is surprising, jar, really, that george conway is so prubral brutal. tonight, the contrarian husband of one of the president s top aides, kellyanne conway, isn t swrus raising eyebrows. he s dropping jaws, speaking about his disdain for the trump administration. it s like a shit show with a dumpster fire. he was once on the short list for a top position in the trump justice department. now, he s become one of the president s chief critics. in a new interview, he explained why he turned down the job. i don t want to do that. i don t know. and then it s like, then you got the comey firing then going on tv saying i had russia on my mind. it s like, oh, no.
everybody from richard pryor all the way through to chris rock and all the great comedians, the comedy was always informed by the truth. especially the edge. exactly. so if you are looking at the truth of the situation, what are you going to do? which democrat are you going to speak about when they have no power? who are you skewering? why do conservatives not have as much success. i say go get a show and they get a show and it doesn t work. innately you have to find yourself ridiculous as well. i tell people this all the time. if you watched my show when we were running the campaign, i remember when hillary made the comments about coal. we re going to shut down coal. and i remember that day we did a whole show about that because we were like this is ridiculous, what are you saying? we could see the mistake. we could see the issue in the
make that statement, which was appropriate and called for unity, but not acknowledge that he bears some share of the responsibility for where we ve gotten in our politics, i think, one, is insufficient, and two, it s a missed opportunity. he does, as you say, have an opportunity tonight to come out in his rally, if he chooses. i m not sure if he will, to give an obama-like speech. think of obama speaking after congresswoman giffords was shot. think of obama s race speech in 2008, the giffords speech in 2011, even his speech trying to bring people together on immigration in 2014. president obama specialized in bringing threads together in moments when people needed unity. president trump is a good speaker but his specialty is more skewering his opponents. josh campbell, the identity of these targets, the political orientation, the fact they ve criticized the president but he s really gone after them as well, how significant of a clue is that? yeah, it s a giant clue, because again,
issue that provide the ingredients for the memo? they actively chose to not read that stuff? that s exactly right. to a person, the republican members voted against allowing themselves to read the underlying materials that they were characterizing. so kristen, everything is upside-down now. you have evangelical leaders basically saying we don t care what the president does, the same ones that were skewering bill clinton are now perfectly fine with everything that donald trump does. and now you have republicans, conservatives supposedly, people who claim to be conservatives, constantly attacking our intel agencies. this is what we used to attack liberals for doing. with the church commission, and you know, constantly going after the c.i.a., constantly attacking the integrity of the fbi. it seems like everything is reversed these days. i don t think anyone should be immune from criticism,
