A group of Skerries women and children are using the healing powers of the sea to rid themselves of everyday stress while beating lockdown isolation and forging new friendships along the way. SkerriWinkles Sea Swimming Community Group was set up last year by a group of like-minded individuals who appreciated the therapeutic nature of the sea and the value of friendship during the pandemic. The group of 20 amateur swimmers aged 8-50 years meets once a day, every day on Skerries North Beach for a five-minute dip in the sea to cleanse themselves of any stress or anxiety they may have - and, as Chairperson Odharnait Kiernan says, to have a little fun while they re at it.
