Police appeal for information after elaborate hoaxes lead to road closures in Derry

A security alert in the Skeoge Road area of Derry has ended and the road has re-opened.
This follows the discovery of a suspicious object last night.
Police along with Ammunition Technical Officers attended.
The object was declared an elaborate hoax, and has been taken away for further examination.
Inspector Michael Swanson said: “I am appealing to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting reference 2077 of 12/05/21.
Robbie Butler Will Not Stand For UUP Leadership UUP MLA Robbie Butler has confirmed he will not stand for the leadership of the party.
Doug Beattie is the only contender in the running to replace current leader Steve Aiken.
In a statement Mr Butler said: Whilst I have given thought to the idea of leading the party at some stage, I did not expect to be considering it this week. Events late last week have caused me to focus my thinking and aspirations for the future of Northern Ireland and my role within the UUP. It has been perhaps one of the greatest pleasures of my life to continue my 20-year public service into the political sphere and it is my intention to continue on that path for the foreseeable future; however at this stage, it will not be as the leader of the Ulster Unionist Party.
Executive To Discuss Easing NI Restrictions The Executive is to discuss easing Coronavirus restrictions in Northern Ireland at a meeting today, 13 May.
International travel and allowing the hospitality sector to reopen and whether people can hug each other again are some of the topics to be discussed.
First Minister Arlene Foster said: We will want to discuss that (hugging), it is something we are discussing today amongst ourselves as well. We know that there is a lot of people who have been waiting for that time, I know certainly I have in terms of my own mother, so I am looking forward to being able to have those discussions.

A security alert on Craigavon Bridge in Londonderry has ended after a suspicious object found on the bridge was declared an elaborate hoax.
Both decks of the bridge were closed following the discovery on Wednesday evening.
Police and Army officers examined the object and it has now been taken away for further examination.
The bridge has since reopened to traffic.
The Skeoge Road was also sealed off by officers when a suspicious object was found, but has since reopened.
Two security alerts in L Derry have now ended after being declared elaborate hoaxes .
The PSNI and Army bomb disposal experts attended the scenes at Craigavon Bridge and Skeoge Road on Wednesday, 12 May, and carried out tests on the suspicious objects.
They have been removed for further examination.
A PSNI spokesperson said: I am keen to thank everyone affected and inconvenienced, in both instances, for their patience as we worked to make the area safe.
“I am also asking members of the public to be vigilant. If you should come across any object that looks suspicious, please don t touch it.
