Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway after they appeared for a Zoom call from their respective properties.
A photo shared on the official Instagram account Kungahuset revealed the royal couples made virtual appearances from Haga Palace in Sweden, Frederik VIII s Palace at Amalienborg in Denmark and Skaugum in Norway, which all feature very different interior decorations.
However, they did have one thing in common – their clever hack of stacking books underneath their laptops to make their cameras the correct height. Take a look inside their stunning home offices…

His Majesty King Harald of Norway celebrates his 84th birthday on Sunday. To mark the occasion, a 21-gun-salute will be fired at noon from the cannons at Akershus Fortress in Oslo. It is tradition in Norway to have a gun salute from 11 fortresses in Norway for the birthdays of King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
The Norwegian King’s birthday is only marked in public when it is a special anniversary, otherwise it is only a private celebration. As the king’s sick leave has been extended to March and due to the pandemic, there will be no big celebration. As the rules are now in Norway, you can have a party for a maximum of 10 people, including your own household. The royals have also said they will follow all the rules. The Royal Court states that the King will stay at his Oslo cabin, Kongssæteren, until March. We can assume that the family will have a small private celebration today.
As King Harald marks his 30
th year on the Norwegian throne, we’re looking back at the three very modern monarchs of Norway since the dissolution of Sweden and Norway in 1905 and the independence of a Norwegian monarchy.
King Haakon VII
The very first modern monarch of Norway was elected in a plebiscite by the newly-independent people of his soon-to-be country in November 1905, though before that, he was just another prince of Denmark.
Born Prince Christian Frederik Carl Georg Valdemar Axel of Denmark in 1872, Prince Carl was the second son of King Frederick VIII and Queen Louise (his older brother ascended to the Danish throne as King Christian X, grandfather of Queen Margrethe) and spent his formative years in the country, ultimately serving in the Royal Danish Navy.

Skaugum Estate is a farmhouse that lies just outside Oslo, Norway, and it is currently the home of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, though it has a storied history that dates back to the Middle Ages and is known as the birthplace of King Harald, in 1937.
Originally a church property, Skaugum belonged to the Church of Mary and the Convent of Nonneseter. In 1909, a Norwegian government minister named Fritz Wedel-Jarlsberg purchased the property, and he later offered to sell the residence to Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Märtha in 1929 after they married.
A fire in 1930 meant that a new house at Skaugum needed to be built, with Arnstein Arneberg tasked with its design, and the new residence was completed two years later. The future King Harald was born at Skaugum Estate in 1937, and it remained King Olav’s official residence until 1968, when he gifted it to his son and daughter-in-law, Crown Princess Sonja.
