Bristol s Smart Internet Lab helps accelerate UK s capabilities in drone operations - sUAS News

29 January 2021 Experts from the University of Bristol are among a UK-wide consortium that is pushing the boundaries of drone development and aviation capabilities. The consortium of 16 entities, led by specialist drone command and control solution developer, sees.ai, and including aviation, aerospace and industry giants BAE Systems, NATS and Sellafield, has won a share of £30 million to develop and test a remotely operated drone system for industrial and urban environments. The futuristic system will enable remote inspection and monitoring of industrial sites such as nuclear, construction and oil and gas, as well as urban sites in the public domain including road and rail and telecoms infrastructure, and live emergency services support.

Work ready to start on giant HS2 project at Acton

The site is to the west of where a new Old Oak Common station is being constructed. The huge underground box will house a crossover track mechanism that will allow trains to switch between tracks, up to a speed of 62 mph, on the approach and descent from Old Oak Common. It will have a volume equivalent to 55 Olympic swimming pools or 800,00 bath tubs and will need reinforcement of roughly a third of the weight of the Eiffel Tower. The site at Victoria Road is also currently being prepared to launch the boring machines that will bore 3.4 miles north west, as part of the 8.4-mile Northolt Tunnel.
