AmaZulu moved to second spot on the DStv Premiership table after snatching a 1-0 win away to Stellenbosch FC on Friday evening.
Thembela Sikhakhane and Xola Mlambo were named on Usuthu’s bench following their return from suspension, while Stellies’ attack featured Stanley Dimgba and Ashley Du Preez.
Du Preez was on the receiving end of a clear chance to put Stellies ahead on eight minutes after running onto a move in behind, but he dragged inches wide in the end.
Junior Mendieta followed up the hosts pursuit to bag the two minutes later with a rasping shot from out wide which in the end nestled the side-netting of Veli Mothwa’s goal.

AmaZulu’s duo Siyabonga Mbatha and Siyethemba Sithebe are said to have attracted interest from two of the “Big Three” Gauteng clubs and might leave the Durban side during the current transfer window, if things go according to plan.
Mbatha – who was Usuthu’s standout performer in goal last season – is currently playing second fiddle to Veli Mothwa, who was signed from Chippa earlier this season when the latter was out with an injury.
Fight, fitness and end product
The way things have been going for Kaizer Chiefs this season, especially their poor form in front of goal, coach Gavin Hunt won’t mind how the goals come.
But while that is Nurkovic’s primary job, he brought a whole lot more to the team in Durban.
His physical presence up front made a significant impact, as he won numerous headers and flick-ons to bring teammates into play.
His ability to hold up play means Amakhosi always have an out ball to play upfront when they are under pressure in other parts of the field.

AmaZulu stars Siyethemba Sithebe and Limbikani Mzava have praised the impact of coach Benni McCarthy ahead of their clash with Kaizer Chiefs.
The former Bafana Bafana striker joined Usuthu in December to replace Ayanda Dlamini and the players seem to have responded very well to him in a short space of time.
Mzava, speaking with the club s media team, says as much as Dlamini gave them good coaching in terms of tactics and everything was well, McCarthy has taken it to another level. So far so good, like I said, since I joined the team all the coaches have had their own tactics you know, said Mzava.
