Around 250 repeat traffic violators in Noida, some with 50 challans and outstanding fines worth lakhs, are set to lose their driving licences. The traffic department has written to the assistant regional transport officer (ARTO) to cancel 246 driving licences and impound the vehicles if found on the road, for over 50 violations each. A recent survey found 1,042 vehicles had violated traffic rules at least 30 times or more each while 12,482 vehicles flouted rules 10 times each.
A delegation of the Noida bus association met officials of the transport department and submitted an application on Friday, demanding a revision of the rate if their vehicles were hired during the Lok Sabha polls later this year.
