A+E’s History is slating Fight the Power: The Movements That Changed America, to air June 19, or Juneteenth, the date commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Executive produced and narrated by NBA legend and social justice advocate Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (pictured), and Deborah Morales of Iconomy Multi-Media & Entertainment, the one-hour doc looks at the impact key movements throughout U.S. history have had in shaping the country’s society, laws and culture. The project is anchored by sit-down interviews and narratives from Abdul-Jabbar’s personal experiences, coupled with anecdotes from noteworthy historians and authors, and supported with archival imagery and current footage.

Additionally, A&E Network has ordered two more docuseries, one on Black comedy and one on hip-hop. “Right to Offend: The Black Comedy Revolution” explores the evolution of Black comedy and comedians who have used pointed humor to expose, challenge and ridicule society’s injustices and to articulate the Black experience in America. The four-hour, two-part series features interviews with some of the greatest comedy minds of all time as well as a rich collection of archival comedy material. “Secret Origins of Hip Hop” from Mass Appeal (“Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men”, “Rapture”) follows some of hip-hop’s biggest stars, including Busta Rhymes, Eve, Fat Joe Grandmaster Flash and Ice-T, as they share the stories and events that molded them into the artists they became.

History Channel is launching a new series called  The Proof Is Out There – taking an in-depth look at incredible videos of unexplained phenomena and mysterious moments. Hosted by veteran TV journalist Tony Harris, each half-hour episode will explore and analyze a single story and the unique footage tied to it – think people seemingly immune to lightning, a 50-foot snake, apocalyptic sounds in a man’s backyard, enigmatic creatures or UFOS that split and dive underwater.    With clips of found footage, still images and audio recordings sourced from private citizens and government agencies, The Proof Is Out There uses the latest technology, rigorous authentication techniques and cutting-edge analytic processes to separate the fantastic from the fake. Harris and his team of experts and investigators will examine each video in question in an attempt to make compelling revelations and conclusions surrounding a few of the most debated videos and public images ever shared.
