Toys for Tots brightens 643 Siskiyou family Christmases

Christmas was made brighter again this year for children and families throughout Siskiyou County, thanks to the dedicated elves at the Siskiyou County Toys for Tots.
Dawn Maidl, who coordinates the county s program with her husband Ken, said all the kids and their families with their requests approved received gifts this year. A total of 1,667 kids and 643 families received toys this year, which was a marked increase from last year.
“We did really well this year,” she said. “We had a huge increase in need from previous years. I m grateful we were able to meet the need this year.”
The community has come through in a big way for Siskiyou County Toys for Tots.
On Dec 3, Dawn Maidl, who coordinates the program with her husband Ken, said donations were down. She worried that the pandemic would stop people from donating, and that more kids than ever were in need of Christmas gifts.
She said at the time that she had faith the community would come through.
Her faith has paid off.
On Friday, Maidl reported Toys for Tots has been inundated with donations – hopefully enough for all the 2,000 Siskiyou County kids and their families who requested them this year.
