ART dating from the 15th Century to modern pieces a decade old were all part of a recent auction at Crewkerne. This great span was reflected in the range of styles and subjects on offer at the Lawrence’s sale - and some staggering sale prices were achieved. Among them was a wooded landscape scene in watercolour by John Middleton, who died in 1856 at the age of just 29, which sold for £6,250 (lot 1322), and two watercolours of Drury Lane in London and High Street in Salisbury by Louis Rayner, which made £11,250 (lots 1335, 1336). Meanwhile, three watercolours by Sir William Russell Flint totalled £25,000, led by the £10,000 paid for `Nameless Flowers, Tripoli` (lot 1527).
