Brisbane has a planet named in its honour, thanks to the curator of the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, Mark Rigby, who is retiring after 36 years at the popular Mt Coot-tha astronomy centre.
The âminor planetâ is asteroid 5277, first discovered in 1988 and named after Brisbane in 2009.
Lord mayor Adrian Schrinner said Mr Rigby had passed on an âextensive knowledge of the galaxyâ to the people of Brisbane as he prepared to leave after more than 36 years.
