SunStar April 25, 2021 THERE is controversy recently on the cutting of trees along the national highway going south of Bacolod or beside the old airport. The environmental groups and netizens aired their concerns for lack of appreciation on the role of trees in the lives of people.
There are also questions on why government agencies allowed the cutting of trees and permits were issued without proper consultation.
I remember this is not the first time when trees were also cut along Abuanan Road in Bago City because of a government project. The trees were planted many years ago to symbolize the friendship between the Philippines and the government of Japan. Theresa Stewart, who has died aged 90, was the only female leader of Birmingham city council to date (from 1993 to 1999); she was Lord Mayor in 2000-01 and a member of the Labour Party for 72 years.
She concentrated on delivering “good public services” for the city, rather than prestige projects like the Convention Centre, Symphony Hall and National Indoor Arena promoted by her predecessor Sir Dick Knowles.

Democrats are outraged that Republicans are planning on objecting to the certification of electoral votes. It’s “conspiracy and fantasy,” says Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“The effort by the sitting President of the United States to overturn the results is patently undemocratic,” the New York Democrat said. “The effort by others to amplify and burnish his ludicrous claims of fraud is equally revolting.”
“This is America. We have elections. We have results. We make arguments based on the fact and reason not conspiracy and fantasy,” he added.
There’s only one problem with Chucky’s “argument based on fact and reason.” Democrats have been challenging the electoral vote certification for 2 decades.
