child care, things related to climate change. this is where it comes down to a little bit of controversy because it s what senator manchin and senator sinema want or don t want in the bill, but it comes down to timing. we re close to the end of the year. congress is out next week, off thanksgiving week, out for the rest of the year because of the break. they ve got more than this bbb to handle. they ve got to fund the government, raise the debt ceiling, pass an act, and if they wish, they have to pass the bbb plan as well. certainly a traffic jam as we approach the end of the year, guys. thank you gary grumbach and lauren. later in the hour, american voters may have used critical
democratic mainstream. 66% of americans support raising taxes on big business. now, there is always room to negotiate loopholes and the like. unless you raise revenue to pray for the programs senator sinema supports, you will gut fiscal responsibility. which brings us back to the question. what does senator sinema want, other than attention? after all, every democratic member of congress, including sinema voted against the trump tax cuts, which led to a massive increase in the debt. it doesn t even repeal all the cuts. they propose turning the top rate raising the corporate rate to 25%, which is still well below the previous rate of 35%. in fact, most middle-class families would see a tax cut under the biden plan. here s why sinema is resistant to even a modest tax increase is such a head scratcher. the effective tax rate in the u.s. is not 21% but 11%.
and is being held out by two senators who represent 9 million constituents. doesn t seem very democratic to me. well, look, what i think now look, when you re reacting to what one senator is doing or saying, it must be having some type of impact. you know, one of the issues here is that we just don t know exactly what senator manchin and senator sinema want. they haven t completely communicated that to the public. they haven t completely, i think, probably communicated that to the white house or the democratic leadership. but that is a process that is ongoing. i think one thing the press could focus on while the democrats are making this saucy. one, that s normal. it happens. it happened with the aca. we got it done. let s talk about the republicans. how about look at the political gamble they re taking by being 100% opposed, unanimously opposed to, for example,
from joe manchin, saying that bernie sanders is up on a state. or he s telling west virginia what to do, and in reality, 48 senators who represent 176 constituents are being blocked from passing a bill that has 60% public support. and is being held up from two senators who represent 9 million constituencies. the president really seem democratic to me. what i think now is when you are reacting to one senators what they are doing in the state, there must be some kind of impact. one of the issues here is that we just don t know exactly what s senator manchin, and what senator sinema want. they have completely communicated that when they haven t communicated that to the white house or the democratic leadership. but that is a process that is ongoing. but i think one thing that is missing here, and one thing that the partial focus on, while the democrats are making the saucy. one that normally it happens with
a real depression. well, one senator spoke to my colleague a little more about senator kyrsten sinema and manchin. the two of them don t agree with each other yet, and 98% of us do, agree with the president and ourselves and with the american people. that s the challenge disturbance they don t see eye to eye with democrats or republicans or each other. so what is your sourcing of what it will take for the lawmakers that lost sight of what americans want and need? that s one of the biggest frustrations when we talk about members and lawmakers and people that work in the white house, they don t know what manchin and sinema want, and they don t have a handle on that, and the two of them don t agree. it would be easier if manchin
