KARACHI: The city administration has sought time from the Sindh High Court to propose a mechanism to resolve a controversy regarding prices of fresh milk after taking all stakeholders on board.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar reissued a notice to the All Karachi Milk Retailers Association with a direction to ensure the presence of its representative on June 10 along with its reply.
It also directed the additional commissioner to file a progress report about the mechanism of the milk price on the next hearing.
The bench was hearing a petition filed against provincial and local administration as well as the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) for not ensuring sale of fresh milk on notified prices in the provincial metropolis.

Detergent, sodium chloride and urea were found positive in the rapid tests of samples of milk being sold in different parts of the province, the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) told the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday.
Filing a statement before the SHC on a petition against the sale of milk at increased prices and use of chemicals in milk, the SFA director operations submitted that the authority had conducted several raids on milk shops operating in the city as well as other districts of the province and imposed fines on milk sellers found selling adulterated milk.

The Sindh High Court sought on Friday a plan from the Karachi commissioner regarding the fixing of official milk prices in a plea pertaining to increasing rates.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, was hearing the plea.
The court asked who had appeared on behalf of the Karachi commissioner. The representative informed the court that Karachi additional commissioner is attending another court hearing. The bench inquired from the representative that what has been done practically to control the milk prices, on which the representative moved the application to adjourn the hearing for a short while.

The Sindh High Court sought on Wednesday a reply from the Karachi commissioner over the increase in the price of milk.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, sought the reply after the counsel for the petitioner informed the court that the official price of milk had been increased from Rs80 per kilogramme to Rs94 per kilogramme, but the retailers had been selling the commodity for Rs140 per kilogramme.
