Opposition members in Sindh Assembly censured the provincial government on Friday over the deplorable state of infrastructure in the province and the slow pace of development projects. They took strong exception to the prevalence of the tanker mafia and the lack of mass transit facilities during the assembly session.
As the house took up discussion on the budget expenditures for the current fiscal year, opposition lawmakers decried the appalling state of public transport in the metropolis and claimed that Karachi has become infamous for being a rickshaw city . Sindh assembly empowers child protection agency
Authority can now take suo motu action on cases of violence against children
KARACHI:
The provincial assembly empowered the Sindh Child Protection Authority to take suo motu action on cases of abduction, rape, murder or any other kind of assault against children.
The house passed a law to this effect in Friday s session in the wake of increasing crimes against children.
The Sindh Child Protection Authority Act was originally passed in 2011, but it did not cover any preventive or curative measures. As a result, amendments and drastic changes were made to make the relevant authority more effective in protecting the children of Sindh.

With Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan lawmakers present, the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday passed a unanimous resolution to condemn the publication of blasphemous sketches of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in France.
It demanded a federal movement to approach the European Union (EU) to impose a ban on any such practice which harms religious harmony throughout the world.
Different resolutions, moved in the houses by opposition and treasury MPAs, were clubbed into one and presented by Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Shah. The minister also holds the additional charge of the provincial religious ministry.
