Yaphet Kotto, an actor whose career spanned blockbusters like the James Bond film Live and Let Die and Alien, has died. He was 81 years old.
The actor’s death was confirmed Tuesday by his agent, Ryan Goldhar, according to The New York Times. A cause of death has not yet been reported.
Kotto’s wife, Sinahon Thessa, also confirmed his death with a lengthy Facebook post, shared Monday. “Rest in Peace Honey,” she wrote, noting they had been married for 24 years. “I’m gonna miss you every day, my best friend, my rock. I love you and you will always be in my heart. Till we meet again!”

Yaphet Kotto, a versatile actor whose many roles included the wisecracking engineer in the hit science-fiction film “Alien,” the villainous adversary in the James Bond movie “Live and Let Die” and a police lieutenant on the long-running television series “Homicide: Life on the Street,” died on Monday near Manila. He was 81.
Kotto played the role of Dr Kanaga, a.k.a Mr Big, in the film that stars Roger Moore as Agent 007 and Jane Seymour as Solitaire, Kananga s psychic and Bond s love interest.

In a statement Monday on Facebook, wife Sinahon Thessa described her late husband as a legend . You played a villain on some of your movies but for me you re a real hero and to a lot of people also, she said.
Agent Ryan Goldhar confirmed his passing in an email to AFP. He did not share the cause of death.

Yaphet Kotto, best known for playing a villain in 1973 James Bond movie Live and Let Die, has died at the age of 81.
The actor also played a crew member in 1979 sci-fi movie Alien, and starred in US TV police drama Homicide: Life on the Street.
Kotto’s other credits included the 1980s action films The Running Man and Midnight Run.
He also received an Emmy nomination for playing former Ugandan President Idi Amin in the 1977 movie Raid on Entebbe.
His TV career also included roles in the A-Team and Law and Order, and he played Lieutenant Al Giardello in seven series of the gritty Homicide: Life on the Street, for which he also worked as a scriptwriter.
