Tesco shoppers across Northampton contributed a total of 3,790 meals, which will go to UK charities, FareShare and The Trussell Trust
Generous Tesco shoppers across the UK have been thanked after donating over 1.3 million meals to two UK charities combatting hunger in the UK, with customers in Northampton contributing a total of 3,790 meals.
The annual Tesco food collection at the end of November saw shoppers donate enough packets, tins and boxes of food to provide 800,000 meals to help the charities - Trussell Trust and Fareshare - carry out their vital work.
An additional food collection held by the supermarket in summer meant that shoppers donated more than 1.3 million meals through Tesco food collections altogether this year. Tesco tops up all customer donations by 20 per cent.
A WORCESTERSHIRE businessman’s wish to inspire his grandchildren to love reading has led to the publication of his debut adventure story, and local charities will benefit. The Adventures of Thomas and the Magic Owl was written by Ian Jukes as a gift to his grandsons Oliver, Thomas and Miles but can now be enjoyed by all pre-teen children with vivid imaginations who enjoy action-packed tales of cheeky, yet well-mannered, characters . Mr Jukes is donating 500 copies of the book to FareShare Midlands and 250 copies to Worcestershire Ambassadors, of whom he is a member, for distribution to local charities. He said: “I’ve been an avid book lover all my life and I’m keen to pass on that enthusiasm.
