The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia has chosen a returning expatriate as its new director, with Suzanne Cotter set to replace 21-year veteran Elizabeth Macgregor.
Ms Cotter, a modern art expert who is currently the director of Luxembourg’s Musée d’art moderne Grand-Duc Jean, began her arts education in her home town of Melbourne, but has worked overseas for more than 30 years.
According to the MCA chairman, Suzanne Cotter “is incredibly well placed to advocate for Australian art and artists on the global stage”.

MCA chairman Lorraine Tarabay said the board chose Ms Cotter in part for her depth and breadth of experience and her international connections.
