Local Elections 2021: These are your Barrow, SLDC, Ulverston and PCC candidates. In the first elections to be held during the pandemic, voters go to the polls tomorrow. There will be two by-elections in Barrow, along with four in South Lakeland, as well as five town councillors in Ulverston, plus the police and crime commissioner elections for the county. Full elections at district level for both Barrow borough and South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), will have to wait a year, until after the decision on the reshaping of local government is decided upon. In Barrow, there will be two by-elections, one for Hyndpool and one for Roosecote. Hyndpool will see two candidates; Niyall Allister Phillips for the Conservatives and Jo Tyson for Labour. Roosecote will also see two candidates; Paul Anthony Griffiths for Labour and Jay Zaccarini for the Conservatives. VOTERS heading to polling stations next week are being reminded of the changes brought on by Covid-19 this year. On May 6, residents in South Lakeland are going to the polls to have their say on who represents them as Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria, with those in affected areas also able to vote in by-elections for vacant district and county council seats and elections to a number of town and parish councils. Voters should not attend the polling station if they have symptoms of Covid-19, or if they have been asked to self-isolate. There will be provisions in place to apply for an emergency proxy vote if required due to health circumstances.
