The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is collaborating with the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) on a virtual training to boost runway safety and improve the operational efficiency of aviation.
The three industry organisations have launched a new virtual training course on the new ICAO Global Reporting Format for Runway Surface Conditions (GRF).
The GRF, which goes into effect on November 4, 2021, sets out new ICAO methodology for assessing and reporting runway surface conditions aimed at improved flight crew assessment of take-off and landing performance.
The online course is specifically designed to meet training requirements for air traffic controllers and aeronautical information service staff. The course content has been preliminarily reviewed by state and regional regulatory bodies to ensure it complies with the GRF training requirement.

New Travel Restrictions Across Latin America & the Caribbean Threaten Economic Recovery
Translations:
Miami – The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), are jointly expressing their deep concerns about the new measures and restrictions imposed on air travel across Latin America and the Caribbean. In a call to governments they are asking for the implementation and adherence to internationally agreed measures which permit safe air travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rolling back the progress made on restoring air connectivity in 2020 will have an adverse effect on the socio-economic recovery in the region, placing millions of jobs at risk.
23 December 2020
IATA, the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) have called on governments in Latin America and the Caribbean to ensure that employees in the aviation sector are considered as essential workers during the impending COVID-19 vaccine campaign.
The industry’s call is aligned with the vaccine priority roadmap issued by the World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization. The roadmap outlines priority populations for vaccination based on epidemiologic setting and vaccine supply scenarios. Within this framework, SAGE has included transportation workers alongside other essential sectors outside health and education sectors such as, for example, police.
