Asset manager Intriva Capital swoops on Moneyplus Group Asset manager Intriva Capital has bought a “significant” stake and supported a management buyout in consumer debt advice company Moneyplus Group. Intriva Capital, an independent alternative investment manager that specialises in credit businesses, said the management buyout would accelerate Moneyplus Group’s expansion. The asset manager also announced a £60m investment programme to grow the business, which already boasts more than 50,000 customers. “When we began talking to the Intriva team, it was clear that they understood our business and broader sector and, perhaps most importantly of all, shared our core values and ethos of supporting customers fairly and responsibly at all times,” Moneyplus chief executive Chris Davis said. “With Intriva’s backing, we’ll continue to grow the business and help more people in need of financi

Pandemic forces lessors to rethink risk: panel

By Cirium2021-01-20T04:06:00+00:00 The pandemic has upended lessors’ market assumptions more than any crisis in the history of aviation, forcing them to reevaluate their approach to risk, an industry panel of lessors, lenders and remarketers has observed. Ted O’Byrne, Carlyle Aviation Partners’ co-head of aviation, used to think about asset risk, financing risk and credit risk – “pretty much in that order” – but with the Covid-19 crisis things have now turned “completely upside down”. Can they make it through the next six, 12, 18 months? Can they access capital? Can they shrink themselves to go through this crisis, and more importantly even, do they have relevance over the long term,” he says, speaking at a panel discussion at the Airline Economics Virtual Growth Frontiers Dublin event on 18 January.

Chess: a rook and two pawns each but what is White's winning move?

Magnus Carlsen is playing from an undisclosed tropical location this week as the 30-year-old world champion is in contention for another online success in the Airthings Masters and its $60,000 first prize. The tournament, sponsored by a company selling and monitoring indoor air quality, has most of the global elite as participants, though with the notable exceptions of the No2, Fabiano Caruana of the US, and the No3, China’s Ding Liren. Carlsen was assuredly the best human player of 2020, even though his fame was totally eclipsed by the fictional Beth Harmon of  The Queen’s Gambit. Yet the crowd favourite among the tens of thousands of spectators who now watch online events and their free grandmaster commentaries was Daniil Dubov. The Muscovite, 24, excels in creative play, and his imaginative sacrificial attack against Sergey Karjakin in the Russian Championship has been widely acclaimed as Game of the Year.
