THE four farmers and a farmworker charged with the murder of the Coka brothers have each been granted R10 000 bail. Daniel Malan (38), Cornelius Greyling (26), Othard Klingenberg (58), Michael Steynberg (31) and Zenzele Yende (48) were given bail by the Piet Retief Magistrates Court on Friday, 30 April. The five face charges of kidnapping, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of murder and defeating the ends of justice. They were arrested on the day of the incident on 9 April.

Coka family fears for their lives after murder accused get bail

The Coka family says they fear for their lives after the bail application. The case will be back in court on 30 June. The family of Mgcini and Zenzele Coka says they will be sleeping with one eye open after the five men charged with the brothers murder were each released on R10 000 bail on Friday.  Orchard Klingenberg, Danie Malan, Cornelius Greyling, Ignitius Steinberg and Senzele Yende were granted bail after the Piet Retief Magistrate s Court ruled there was no evidence the men would interfere with or intimidate witnesses as was argued by the State during their bail application.  The brothers nephew, Sandile Coka, said they were unhappy about bail because we are not safe .

Five men are appearing in the Piet Retief Magistrate s Court in connection with the killing of brothers Zenzele and Mgcini Coka in Mkhondo. On Tuesday, the court heard one of the brothers shot in the direction of one of the farmers and his son. The farmer told the court he believed his actions were not untoward. The Piet Retief Magistrate s Court heard on Tuesday that one of the five men accused of killing the Coka brothers in Mpumalanga in April fired a shot in the direction of one of the brothers. Applying for bail, Orchard Klingenberg, through his lawyer, submitted an affidavit before Magistrate Simon Fankomo, saying he had acted in self-defence when he fired his gun.

They were arrested in connection with the killing of brothers, Zenzele and Mgcini Coka. Zakhele, the deceased s older brother, disputes what the accused have told the court. Zakhele Coka, whose brothers, Zenzele and Mgcini, were shot and killed during an altercation at Pampoenkraal Farm on 9 April, wants to know why the accused were in possession of guns on the day.  The older brother claims the version given to the court by the accused was not a true reflection of what happened.  He was in the Piet Retief Magistrate s Court in Mkhondo, Mpumalanga, on Monday when Danie Malan, Orchard Kligenberg, Cornelius Greyling, Ignitius Steinberg and Senzele Yende applied for bail.
