Arguably, not since Jimmy Cliff’s 1972 debut in The Harder They Come classic has there been a production filmed in Jamaica that has captured the imagination of not only the citizens of this fair isle of wood and water but that of the entire world..
It was 8.30 pm on December 3 1976 in uptown Kingston, Jamaica. Bob Marley and the Wailers were rehearsing in the large house at 56 Hope Road that the singer had been given by Chris Blackwell, the boss of Island Records. “I remember telling my mother, ‘I want to come, too’,” says Ziggy Marley, Bob and Rita Marley’s eldest son, who was eight at the time and staying at his great-aunt’s house. “And she was like, ‘No, you have school tomorrow’.”
The reggae singer’s biopic, “Bob Marley: One Love,” is set to release in theaters on Valentine Day. Meanwhile, we wanted to break down his fascinating story.
