A new TV series has rewritten ancient Pacific legends through a modern lens.
New horror series Teine Sā tells the stories of five different female deities and their impact on young Pacific women facing the issues of the modern world - and it s the first time in years that Pacific legends have been brought to life on our screens.

Directed by the internationally acclaimed Toa Fraser and Sima Urale, it s also the first TV series to feature a Melanesian story written, directed and crewed by Melanesian women.

The series,
Teine Sā - The Ancient Ones, has taken a modern-day twist on ancient myths and legends, and the episodes are delivered by a raft of new Moana writers and directors, under the eye of internationally acclaimed directors Toa Fraser and Sima Urale.
Each episode focuses on a different traditional Pacific tale that has been passed down through the generations.
The first episode, self-titled
Teine Sā, was directed by first-time TV series director Mario Faumui who said although it was an emotional journey for him, he was pleased with the product and the experience.
Tales of the Unexpected than Rod Serling’s
Zone, as each offers an absorbing mix of hot-button contemporary topics and Pasifika goddesses of legend. Evildoers get their comeuppance in these morality plays, as they tackle sensitive subjects like internet dating, online sex videos and disregard for cultural values. Indeed, the two tales that bookend the anthology – Teina Sā and Ahi – are very much concerned with the trampling and exploitation of sacred, spiritual spaces, be they via an art installation, or a hotel development.
