The Sierra’s 14 percent increase in sales volume allowed it to outperform the segment as well as all other contenders, except the Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra which reported increases of 15 and 26 percent, respectively. The Chevrolet Silverado also posted a healthy 10 percent increase. The Ram and F-Series saw sales volume decrease, with the Ram Pickup seeing a 7 percent decline and the Ford F-Series posting a 15 percent loss.
The GMC Sierra saw its segment share increase to 12 percent compared to 10 percent recorded in Q4 2019.
The full-size pickup truck segment contracted 2 percent to 656,894 units in Q4 2020, meaning that Sierra sales significantly outperformed the segment.

Supply of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra “was tightly bound”, said GM Vice President of U.S. Sales, Service and Marketing, Steve Hill, during a conference call with the media attended by
GM Authority. As such, it seems safe to conclude that sales volumes of the two GM pickups would have climbed even higher had supply been more favorable.
Overall GM sales decreased 12 percent to 2,547,339 units during the 2020 calendar year as the Detroit-based automaker along with the auto industry as a whole navigated a very difficult landscape stemming from challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. All automakers, including GM, faced shortages of key vehicles as production was idled in March until May. Pickup trucks were hit the hardest, creating a scarcity of the popular vehicles. GM production resumed on a limited basis in May with new procedures and processes in place designed to keep workers safe and plants operating.
The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size GM trucks outsold the Ford F-Series, including the F-150, by almost 60,000 units during the 2020 calendar year.
The Chevy Silverado is the best-selling full-size pickup truck among U.S. buyers aged 18-34, strengthening GM's challenge against Ford in the truck space.
This comment always comes up in these debates lol, and it makes me laugh every time. So for maybe the 500th time, let’s slowly work this one out.
Right now, there are 3 American corporations that build full-size pickup trucks. They are Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles…we could debate how “American” they really are all day long, but for the sake of time, let’s not). Okay, still with me, Jeremy?
Of these, Ford has their F Series line, GM has their SIlverado and Sierra lines, and FCA has their RAM line. Easy enough.
