Remote learning, COVID-19 mitigation efforts cause drop in arrests made at Pa. schools in 2019-20

Arrests made at public schools dipped 36 percent statewide during the last school year, according to the 2019-20 state Department of Education’s Safe Schools report.
The drop, mostly connected to the outbreak of COVID-19, might indicate that in a post-virus world the number and types of crimes reported at schools will look different in the next few reports as law enforcement officials learn how to respond to calls for help during a pandemic, state education officials and local law enforcement said.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. Three Maryland teens and three other juveniles are facing charges after an alleged retail theft in Mechanicsburg and an ensuing vehicle chase that ended along Interstate 83 in York County on Sunday, authorities say.
Teron Powell, 18, and Malcolm Graham, 18, both of Baltimore, and Takala Robinson, 18, of Pasedena, are each charged with 12 felony counts and two misdemeanors stemming from the alleged incident, which occurred Sunday afternoon, according to court documents and police reports.
The three other juveniles involved in the case are also from Maryland, police say.
Police did not indicate what, if any, charges the other juveniles are facing.

Six people were responsible for attempting to steal roughly $13,000 worth of laptops and tablets from a Mechanicsburg area Best Buy, then assaulting bystanders as they fled the scene, police said.
Silver Spring Township police said the failed theft took place around 2:09 p.m. Sunday at the Best Buy on the 6400 block of the Carlisle Pike.
Teron Powell and Malcolm Graham, both 18 and from Baltimore, Maryland; 18-year-old Takala Robinson, 18, of Pasadena, Maryland; and three juveniles are accused of trying to steal the merchandise, assaulting bystanders who tried to stop them and causing $6,000 in damages to the Best Buy, according to police.
