Everything new is old again. The fuel-cell technology in the new 2021 Toyota Mirai passenger car is an advanced, eco-friendly concept that takes us back to the early years of the 20th century, when those new-fangled cars were uncommon and there was no infrastructure to support them. Recognising the Mirai poses a challenge selling to private buyers, Toyota Australia has established its own hydrogen supply station and is leasing the car to corporate customers in small numbers.

The second-generation Mirai will hit Australian roads first as part of an extended demonstration program , which will see 20 vehicles leased by Toyota to pioneering organisations and business keen on a low CO2 vehicle.
As a result, there s no public recommended retail price before on-road costs, instead a 36-month/60,000km lease deal (including fuel) with $1750 monthly repayments – equating to $63,000 over the duration of the lease.
A wider launch to the general public could occur in the coming years, pending the construction of new hydrogen refuelling stations.
