The Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History and The Park City Historical Society said they were plreased that the restoration project to save the King Con Ore Bin, located on the Claimjumper ski trail at Park City Mountain, received The Grand Award for Historic Preservation from the Park City Historic Preservation Board for 2023.
Solon Spiro is best known in Park City for his development of the Silver King Consolidated Mine in Thaynes Canyon. But for his first 20 years in Utah, he was known as the manager and secretary of the M.S. Ascheim Mercantile Co., a clothing store in town. Despite working in Park City, he could afford to live in Salt Lake City, which at that time had much cleaner air and was a more respectable town.
In 1924, the sheriff raided another bootlegging operation on the ranch. Someone named Dan Sullivan grabbed the small still that was set up in the woods and outran the Sheriff, avoiding arrest briefly.
