Rescue operations to evacuate 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand s Silkyara tunnel resumed on Thursday morning after an overnight hurdle delayed drilling by several hours. An iron mesh in the path of the drilling machine was removed, holding up the drilling through the 57-meter stretch of rubble of the collapsed section of the tunnel by six hours.

On Thursday, efforts to drill through the debris of the collapsed Silkyara tunnel were once again halted as the platform supporting the equipment developed cracks, adding another setback to the mission to rescue the 41 trapped workers.
41 people have been trapped inside a collapsed tunnel in Uttarakhand for 12 days, with efforts being made to drill through to install a pipe for their evacuation.
National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHCRCL) spokesperson Sushma Gaur said the drilling machine owned by Larsen & Toubro Limited was sent on Wednesday.
