Jack and Solar TVA Links Iconic Distillery With Renewable Energy
The trend of supplying commercial and industrial locations with renewable energy along with the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA’s) continuing support of investments in power projects that support sustainability is being recognized at one of the most-iconic distilleries in the U.S.
The TVA on April 13 said it has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Nashville-based solar power developer Silicon Ranch Corp. to provide 20 MW of solar capacity to the Jack Daniel’s distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The project is a partnership among TVA, Silicon Ranch, and the Duck River Electric Membership Corp., an electric cooperative that has served the area since 1936.
Electricity producer Silicon Ranch Corp. could add acres of solar panels near its solar power farm north of Memphis, funneling more energy into TVA’s grid as Facebook and other expanding companies ask for electricity made from renewable sources.
Silicon Ranch would expand near its 420-acre Millington solar station, which opened in April 2019 as the largest solar farm in Tennessee.
In recent weeks, the company has begun to pay for options to buy farmland at Millington to open way for more solar energy production, area landowners say.
‘‘We are seeking to invest more in the community,’’ said Matt Beasley, Silicon Ranch chief commercial officer, noting the Nashville-based firm has not made a final decision to proceed with the expansion project.

North Stonington A Tennessee company is seeking approval from the Connecticut Siting Council to install 28,971 solar panels on one-third of the 157 acres of forested land it owns off Route 184 west of Boombridge Road.
A subsidiary of Silicon Ranch Corp., which is based in Nashville and operates 135 solar facilities in 15 states, plans to clear 47 of the 157 residential zoned acres for the panels, which would measure 6 feet, 10 inches by 3 feet, 5 inches. The site comprises five lots, one of which is north of Route 184 and the other four to the south of the road.
The panels would generate 9.9 megawatts of electricity and the power would be sold to Eversource and United Illuminating. Silicon Ranch officials say the project will not only generate clean, renewable energy at a stable price but create temporary construction jobs and generate tax revenue for the town. Silicon Ranch also uses a procedure called Regenerative Energy, in which it partne
