The Phnom Penh Municipal Court of Appeal on February 8 heard a case filed by the head of a freight company who claimed he was deceived into signing documents approving a shipment of more than three tonnes of elephant ivory from South Africa in 2014.
The drug control committees from the coastal provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep on August 3 held a combined drug burning ceremony of more than 468kg narcotics. On the same day, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court sent a man to prison for trafficking over 4kg of drugs.
Lim Tong Huot – director of the Legislation, Education and Rehabilitation Department under the National Committee for Combating Drugs (NACD) – told The Post on August 3 that the drugs seized during raids in 2020 were set ablaze by the committees.
He added that the original plan was to hold the occasion on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, but the committees were occupied with preventing the Covid-19 pandemic.
