Indonesia s Sumba Island experiences first earthquake of 2021: BMKG 1st January 2021
(FOTO ANTARA/HO-BMKG) Jakarta (ANTARA) - A 5.0-magnitude earthquake rocked northwest of Sumba Island in the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara on Friday morning, but it did not potentially generate a tsunami.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed the receipt of immediate reports of casualties and damages in the aftermath of the earthquake that was noted as the first occurrence in the area on the first day of 2021.
The tremors of the earthquake, whose epicenter was located some 21 kilometers (km) away from northwest of Tambolaka, the capital of Sumba Barat Daya District, at a depth of 83 km, triggered fear and panic among several residents, who fled their houses.

Illustration Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA) - A 5.1-magnitude earthquake rocked northeast of Bitung port city in North Sulawesi Province on Thursday evening, though it did not trigger a tsunami.
Epicenter of the quake that struck at 10:04 p.m. local time was located some 131 kilometers (km) away from Bitung at a depth of 10 km, according to the Jakarta-based Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). We have not yet received reports of casualties or damages, Adelia, an operational staff of the Winangun Geophysics Station in Manado City, was quoted by ANTARA as saying on Friday.
