Picture: FT FILE Forty-four cases were arrested in the last 24-hours for failing to comply with curfew orders as well as breaching COVID-19 restrictions. Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says of the 44, 18 were arrested for failing to comply with curfew orders while 26  found to have breached the COVID-19 restrictions that have been enforced. He said the Southern Division recorded 23 cases, with 22 in relation to  COVID-19 restrictions while a 26-year-old man of Samabula was found drunk in the Namadi Heights area within curfew hours. Mr Tudravu said eight people were arrested in the Eastern Division for failing to comply with curfew orders while the Northern Division recorded five cases – where all were found drunk at Nadawa Street in Labasa, Wailevu area, and Wairiki in Taveuni during curfew hours.

He says 8 people were arrested in the Eastern Division for failing to comply with curfew orders while the Northern Division recorded 5 cases whereby all were found drunk in Labasa and Taveuni.

This work will be carried out on Thursday (15/4/21), and it will cause disruption in water supply to customers living around MN Naidu and Kalacraft. “We kindly advise residents in affected areas to prepare accordingly and store enough water for two to three days’ worth of use,” the WAF stated. Meanwhile, a broken main at Nayawa Main Highway has disrupted supply for customers living from Sigatoka Town to Korotogo Back Road.

Picture: BALJEET SINGH JUICE sellers in Sigatoka Town have been given until May 1 to discard the wooden tables they are using and replace them with folding tables. Sigatoka assistant health inspector Saiyad Shah, during a meeting with the market vendors and juice sellers, said it would be made compulsory for all juice sellers to use folding tables. However, Mr Shah did not clarify to the vendors why the decision was made. A juice seller, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said she would have to fork out extra money to purchase a folding table.

A grant of $170,504 by the Japanese Embassy to procure a compactor truck will greatly assist the Sigatoka Town Council and it’s people in keeping their town clean and tidy, says Local Government Minister Premila Kumar. She said proper management of solid waste would benefit the 297 ratepayers and the more than 500 businesses in Sigatoka Town. Ms Kumar said the council did not have fleets to carry out in-house waste collection services and was outsourcing the services to a private contractor at a cost of $70,311.31. “The timely assistance by the Japanese Embassy will enable the council to deliver this service in-house,” she said.
