PETALING JAYA: Industry players have lauded an initiative to temporarily use abandoned and unused buildings as welfare hotels and quarantine centres.
Association of Valuers, Property Managers, Estate Agents and Property Consultants in the Private Sector Malaysia president Michael Kong commended the government on the idea.
“With the pandemic situation growing critical, many city dwellers may be displaced, out of shelter or homes and in dire need of social and welfare assistance.”
He said by having a centralised area where people in need can go to for shelter, food and security, the needy can be cared for much more effectively.

PUTRAJAYA (Feb 26): The Federal Court today dismissed an appeal by Apex Equity Holdings Bhd and its unit JF Apex Securities Bhd, over the locus standi (legal standing) of its minority shareholders on their opposition to the merger with Mercury Securities Sdn Bhd.
This follows Federal Court judge Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat dismissing their appeal for leave to pose several questions of law to the apex court regarding Section 360 of the Capital Markets and Services Act on the powers of court to make certain orders. The question surrounds the locus standi (legal standing) of the applicants in filing the originating summons. The law on locus standi is settled. I do not think the leave question has passed the threshold for the court to grant leave.
SINGAPORE (THE BUSINESS TIMES) - Ascott Residence Trust (ART) has obtained a five-year $50 million green loan from DBS to finance its maiden development project: lyf one-north Singapore.
The 324-unit co-living property was one of the 15 ART properties that attained green certifications in 2020, bringing the stapled group s total number of green properties to 21, the stapled group s managers said in a bourse filing on Thursday (Jan 14).
lyf one-north is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2021. It will be fitted with energy-efficient and smart building features, including an energy monitoring system, motion sensors and energy-efficient lighting.
Beh Siew Kim, chief executive of ART s managers, said: Being the first hospitality trust in Singapore to secure a green loan reinforces ART s commitment to do our part for the environment and the communities we operate in.
