AGARTALA: The vaccination for people aged 18-44 years will be delayed by three weeks in Tripura, as the supply of Covishield doses has been deferred by the manufacturer, director of state’s NHM Dr Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal said on Thursday.
He said Serum Institute of India (SII) has sought 20 days to meet the existing commitments to other states before sending the first consignment to Tripura. However, the ongoing vaccination programme those above 45 years will continue uninterrupted.
The required supply of the vaccine consignment from the central government has no problem and as on date, about 1.64 lakh doses of the vaccines are available enough for the next four days’ vaccination. According to estimates, Tripura needs 32 lakh doses of vaccine to cover 16 lakh eligible population aged 18-44. The state government has already allocated Rs 133.19 crore for the procurement of vaccines, syringes and other overhead expenses.
