As the coronavirus pandemic ushers facial recognition technology even more swiftly from science fiction into everyday life, a test used to certify lawyers has become a flash point, with critics saying the software used for remote testing is discriminatory.
In a letter sent Wednesday, the nonprofit Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law demanded the California State Bar, a government agency, stop using software that they say discriminates against women and people of color taking the test.
