Criticism of Watford s Ascot Road and the Range plans

A letter raging against controversial developments in Watford struck a chord with readers last week with many questioning how the area would cope. The submission, written by Ian Fox - who dubbed himself Angry of Watford - criticised housing plans agreed for the Range and Ascot Road. He wrote: Do we really need to build a 1,214-dwelling, 28-storey mega high-rise in what is an already high-density part of town? That combined with Ascot Road’s 691 flats and Sydney Road’s 600 flats, totals 2,505 new builds. That’s over three years’ housing targets ticked off without taking into consideration all the many other projects that are in development.

Extinction Rebellion did give input into Watford s draft local plan

By Letters to the Editor Letter Mr Denholm claims Extinction Rebellion were one of several groups to have their say on the draft plan Ian Fox in his letter ‘Out of date doctrine’ of February 12, 2021 wondered if Extinction Rebellion had helped design Watford Borough Council’s draft plan for the future of Watford. Indeed we did give input, along with Friends of the Earth, various cycling clubs and other local community groups. He implies the Liberal Democrats are to be disparaged for this action when in fact, they should be commended for their foresight. Mr Fox says “the Liberal Democrats are stuck in an out of date doctrine that is going to ruin this town”. It is Mr Fox who is actually peddling an “out of date doctrine” of over reliance on the use of petrol and diesel cars and, in his view, an unrealistic deadline of 2030 for Watford to become carbon neutral.
