Dear Mayor Krantz,
Re: Racing during a Lockdown/Shutdown Situation
On behalf of Woodbine Mohawk Park and the thousands of families in horse racing in the Halton Region, thank you for your ongoing support of our industry over the years.
At Woodbine Entertainment, we continue to be very supportive of the Government of Ontario’s efforts to stem the spread of COVID-19 in our province. The health and safety and wellbeing of our employees, horse people and communities will always be of the highest priority for us.
Yesterday, in response to the Government of Ontario’s declaration of a Provincial State of Emergency and province-wide 28-day stay-at-home order, we made the decision to stop training at Woodbine Mohawk Park where live racing has been suspended since April 3, the first day of the ‘emergency brake’ shutdown. We also announced the postponement of our Thoroughbred season at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.
it s, how much do you say are playing out? so how much could his frustration over haas happens in that area boil over and impact any agreement that they would come to. i could see that he could simply transfer that anger over to the appropriations process. it would be a terrible mistake. the president doesn t have great options here. what is he going do? is he going to tell the leaders of the senate not to allow the bill to be brought to the floor ? it would set up another shutdown
republicans in the senate and they are the ones narrative because they are in the majority. i said what your going to do if you actually do reach a deal that you like, that you think brings some money for border security that will make a difference but it s not what the president wants? are you willing to break with him or tell the democrats we got to do something else because the president doesn t like it. they don t know what they will do. they don t want to break the president because they are fear of crossing the republican base and trump has a hold on them and they are not going to let go. they have a hold on him. this relationship will not break. on the other hand they don t want another shutdown situation and very wary of this national emergency thing. they are going to end up having to vote on it because nancy pelosi and the house will run a resolution ever disapproval. it will pass the house and under the rules the senate has to take it up. then they have to decide again do we
will make a deal. what did they say? well, a number of republicans that i have spoken to today are hopeful that they will get out of this mess and they won t run into another shutdown situation like we saw for the past 35 days. i talked for the senate majority leader. he said i think it remains a bad idea and i m optimistic we will be in the position again. it s an option. he is making it clear he does not want anything to do with the shutdown. what was he saying? back off and let s let the conference figure it out and let
a president who not only describes himself as a master negotiator someone who s able to able to get really whatever he wants out of any situation but someone who s tendency in his tactics we have as we ve seen over the past several years that he s been in the public eye he tends to escalate a situation in order to get what he wants rather than backing down as we ve seen him do here now there s several elements to this one of which is the polling right now very much puts the blame for this whole shutdown situation that we ve been talking about for five weeks now on the president as much as he is trying to shunt the blame often to the democrats he appeared in a nationwide primetime address talking about why he had done this and why we needed money for this border wall he is still losing this fight and even though he has this tactic of digging in in order to get what he wants the democrats
