PENDER COUNTY â A Rocky Point, N.C. mother and son have filed a lawsuit against 15 people, including a now-former New Hanover County Sheriff s deputy, who they allege attempted to invade their home last year.
The lawsuit, which lists Monica and Dameon Shepard as plaintiffs, alleges that a mob of known and unknown white residents led by then-New Hanover County Sheriff s Deputy Jordan Kita attempted to forcibly enter the Shepards home in Rocky Point on May 3, 2020.
Kita was wearing his official New Hanover County Sheriff s Department uniform at the time and carrying his official sidearm, according to the lawsuit and comments at a press conference in May 2020 made by District Attorney Ben David.
